L’univers vu par HUBBLE
Le télescope spatial HUBBLE est un télescope robotisé placé sur le bord extérieur de l’atmosphère, en orbite circulaire autour de la terre à 593 km au-dessus du niveau de la mer, avec une période orbitale entre 96 et 97 minutes et à une vitesse de 28000hm/heure. Dénommé ainsi en hommage à Edwin Hubble, il a été mis en orbite le 24 avril 1990 comme projet conjoint de la NASA et de l’ESA, inaugurant ainsi le programme des grands observatoires. De forme cylindrique Hubble pèse 11 tonnes, sa longueur est de 13,2 m et son diamètre maximum est de 4,2 mètres. Le télescope peut obtenir des images d’une résolution optique supérieure à 0,1 seconde d’arc.
